Infra-Noir Nr. 2
2021
DISCIPLINE: EDITORIAL DESIGN, PRINT
Art Encounters Foundation in Timișoara presented Infra-Noir: anatomies of desire, metamorphoses of the image, an exhibition focusing on Romanian Surrealism, organised in collaboration with Centre Pompidou Paris. Bringing together works from the collections of Centre Pompidou Paris, as well as from private collections, Infra-Noir included names such as Victor Brauner, Jacques Hérold or Benjamin Fondane.
Curated by Mica Gherghescu, the exhibition revolves around the Infra-Noir group and its members, Ghérasim Luca, Gellu Naum, Paul Păun, D. Trost and Virgil Teodorescu.
Infra-Noir also highlighted key moments in the history of Romanian Surrealism by exploring pivotal works in the history of the movement. (...) Within the framework of the show, the Foundation launched two issues of Infra-Noir, a magazine-like publication inspired by the themes approached throughout the exhibition. The magazines design approach focuses on evoking the spirit of the recalled artistic movement by using a suitable typeface with a distinctive personality, such as Euclid Flex. On the other hand, the layout is a revival of the original experimental Infra-Noir publications — specific for 50s  newspaper lookalike with geometric block texts, all printed on creamy white ultra light paper.
The second issue is covered in a hard-paper case with spot UV printing on full black background, the artwork of Romanian artist Calin Mann, reVoltaire, “LETTRES EN TÊTE AVANT LA LETTRE” (>>> reVoltaire : RMN > ASCII > FONT:bloc108B <<< / cinema ikon.
